The Tauranga Energy Consumer Trust has set aside a budget of $38 million to benefit consumers and community organisations as part of its draft Annual Distribution Plan for the coming financial year.
Trustees are proposing a $28.4 million tax free payout to Consumers via its cheque scheme.
Eligible TECT Consumerswill receive a cheque of at least $425 each in November 2014, up from the minimum $400 pay-out last year.
TECT Chairman Michael Cooney said the cheque distribution provided an injection of millions of dollars into the local economy.
Despite a fiercely competitive electricity market, Trustees are pleased with TrustPower's performance and are heartened to see that TECT continues to go from strength to strength.
"Community organisations are finding it increasingly difficult to secure funding for their projects and operations with a number of funding agencies being forced to limit their distributions.
"Trustees are keen to continue their support of local Community Organisations and have increased the level of funding available by allocating a further $9.6 million to TECT's various funding schemes. These organisations are the backbone of our community," Mr Cooney said.
