100m scrub fire in Whakamarama

Omokoroa fire fighters are battling a scrub fire on Jess Rd measuring about 100m by 120m.

Fire service shift manager Colin Underdown said it appeared to have started as a controlled burn which had got out of control.

One fire crew was at the Whakamarama address using a high pressure hose on the light scrub.

An Omokoroa fire fighter said the fire was down by the estuary.
