Coventry seven-piece ska legends The Specials will take the stage at Womad 2017, organisers have announced.
Since they founded the British ska revival craze in 1977 The Specials have remained at the forefront of a huge fan following, even though they lasted but two and a half years.
In 2008
however, the Specials reformed and have attracted huge audiences wherever they have played. More recently in spite of the death of popular drummer and founding member John Bradbury.
On the back of their historic sound, combining highly danceable ska and rocksteady with energy, politics and punk attitude, the Specials have headlined gigs like Coachella, Lapapalooza, the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Byron Bay Bluesfest, as well as appearances on key TV shows like Letterman.
The 13th Taranaki Womad festival runs on the weekend of March 17 through 19, at New Plymouth's Bowl of Brooklands.
