Teens in fine form at music festival

Aspiring teenage musicians like 16-year-old Joe Burke (pictured) were able to showcase their talents as part of an inaugural talent festival put on by Downtown Tauranga.

The Spirit of Music Festival came to a head in Red Square yesterday after two weekends of performances throughout the city centre.

Stephanie Adams won first place (a $150 Molyneux Jewellers voucher).

"I came into this competition not really trying to win prizes, I just wanted to have fun and I did," she said.

Sixteen-year-old Joe Burke won second prize (a $100 Lone Star cafe and restaurant voucher) and third prize (a $50 Farmers Tauranga voucher) went to 15-year-old Miriam Chancellor.

"I loved it. It was a great experience," Miriam said.

Mainstreet manager Kirby Weis said the festival was a great opportunity for Downtown Tauranga to support emerging talent.
