If there's one band that will have Baycourt packing a crowd, it's the Modern Maori Quartet. If you went to their last show at Baycourt, you will know they turned a chilly winter's night into a humming good time.
They're back in town next month, performing Summer Pops with the
NZSO in a hip-swaying, feel-good show conducted by NZSO associate conductor Hamish McKeich.
"The show allows the orchestra to try different things, and to perform to audiences who might not traditionally attend an orchestral performance," says McKeich.
"If both groups are open and hip to the new experience, after ironing out the obvious small issues that will appear in new productions like this, the magic can happen on stage. I know the quartet are keen and ready, as is the orchestra, so I can hardly wait to get it on the road around New Zealand," he says.
The show will include a mix of Maori showband classics, waiata, and pop hits in English and te reo Maori.
