The Sound of Music stage show certainly needs no introduction, the storyline is a classic and the songs have been sung along to by generations. However, with something so well-known comparisons can easily be made.

Take a bow Aquinas College, your season of the Sound of Music was fabulous.   Strong and creditable characters made the transition from daytime College students to adults 'on stage' very believable; the delightful Max played by Cole Maguire, Morgan Schuler as the graceful Elsa, Franz (Maynard Scott) and Rolf (Sam Graham) as the Nazi sympathisers, Alice Houghton as the efficient and articulate Housekeeper - all delivered superb performances and easily bridged the age gap.

The 'how do you solve a problem like Maria' dilemma was well led by Aimee Lavelle as the Mother Abbess and her Nuns Jemma Bridge, Eilish Sinclair, Courtney McManaway and Talia Burton - all of whom delivered very strong performances.

The Von Trapp children were a delight, each expressing their individuality but uniting well as every large family does! Lauren Watson's (Liesl) expression of the anguish of being 'sixteen going on seventeen' was beautiful and she and Sam Graham (Rolf) produced some lovely dance moves that were enthusiastically applauded by the audience.

Kate Gilday delivered a magnificent Maria.  The transition from uncoordinated nun to enthusiastic governess to wife and the type of stepmother that everyone loves was faultless.  Kate's wonderful voice covered the full range of the famous Julie Andrew's songs along with personality and stage presence.

Joe Burke's (Captain Von Trapp) much awaited 'Eldeweiss' brought a tear to many an eye.  Special mention to the Hendry boys for their drumming 'cameo'.

Congratulations to Director Toni Henderson for assembling and directing a terrific cast.

Musical Director Lynda Wing herself a great maestro led (the greatest addition to any show) the live orchestra. Talented choreographer Paige Henderson was assisted by Bridget Karton to produce some lovely moments.

My night at the 'Sound of Music' was top of the list of 'My Favourite Things' this week.
