The tenor is considered the most romantic of voices, perfect for conjuring up the sultry passion and wonderful melodies of Italy.
New Zealand tenors Bonaventure Allan-Moetaua, Derek Hill and Kalauni Pouvalu are performing Italian love songs in the city next month, transporting their audience to Italy through famous songs and ballads.
"Italy has been responsible for many of the most thrilling songs ever written. That's Amore will feature many of these fabulous songs including Nessun Dorma, O Sole Mio, Come Back to Sorrento, Santa Lucia, Time To Say Goodbye and Mambo Italiano," says Jessica Rodda, communication co-ordinator for Operatunity.
Bonaventure is a seasoned and versatile performer who was a finalist for the New Zealand Aria competition in 2007-08 and has performed with New Zealand Opera.
Derek Hill is a graduate of McGill University in Montréal Canada where he graduated with high distinction in voice. He has worked with most of New Zealand's Opera companies and orchestras.
The youngest member of the group, Kalauni Pouvalu, won the Conal Coad Opera Australia Prize at the NZ Singing School and this year was a finalist in the IFAC Handa New Zealand Singing School Aria Competition in 2016. In 2013 he was awarded the prestigious Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation Award for the most promising classical singer at the NZ Singing School for that year.
