A three-day festival of workshops in movement, music and well-being is all about getting people connected, says organiser Emily Mowbray.

The festival is designed to connect bodies to minds, people to the inner city, and people to each other, she says.

"I feel like it is my way to care for people - to provide them with a beautiful space and an experience that is meaningful and not chaotic. I'm really interested in spaces that promote peace. It is about slowing down, bringing in nature and doing it in an urban area. It fills that whole space with a happy energy."

The festival offers over 40 movement, music and well-being workshops including kapa haka, a variety of yoga techniques, breaking, hula hooping, meditation, ecstatic dance, African drumming, world drumming, didgeridoo and animal movement.

Emily says they are the chance to try something different that may inform other body work people are already doing. "Cross-fit people might like to try the animal movement class as it combines breaking, yoga, gymnastics and uses a lot of upper body strength," she said.

One of the workshops she is most looking forward to is the kapa haka workshop on Sunday directed by Ria Hall and Josh Te Kani. "The festival is not about getting it perfect. It is for everybody of all cultures to just have a go.

Do something alongside their kids, be courageous. Ria and Josh are fun, light-hearted people, but are people who are also at the top of their game, so people will have a great time and it is something for the whole family."

Friday is kids' day at the festival and a range of kid-focussed events are planned including breakdancing, capoeira, ukelele and kids yoga. World renown break dancer, Rush Wepiha has flown from Perth to take the workshops and anyone who knows anything about break dancing knows who he is, says Emily.

He will be taking different classes for the spectrum of ages including breaking fundamentals, mobility drills, strength and conditioning.

Saturday sees the festival move to adult and family focussed events including stilt walking, flow yoga, hip hop, singing and tai chi to name a few. A free performance picnic is being held for the whole family from 11.30am to 1.30pm and kids who want to busk are welcome to have a go. Bring your picnic or visit the foodtrucks, listen to music, watch teachers demonstrate their workshops, relax and enjoy the space.
