Tauranga opera fans get the chance to hear the winner of the 2016 Lexus Song Quest when Auckland baritone Benson Wilson sings in the city this month.
Wilson will be performing in Operanesia, a show raising money for Waipuna Hospice, alongside other classically trained artists, Joel Amosa, Kalauni Pouvalu and
Noah Filimoehala.
While they will sing some classical music, the Tauranga show will be a mix of medleys, popular and contemporary music.
Lexus is a biennial contest for opera singers and previous winners include Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Dame Malvina Major.
The win hands Wilson a scholarship to study at the Guildhall School of Music in London.
Second placegetter was Filipe Manu, a tenor from Auckland, and in third place was Hamilton soprano Madison Nonoa.
