He is playing in Tauranga next month, bringing his high-energy performance to another generation.
Marsden has released a number of albums, but the career highlight was the gold selling album Burning Rain in 1990.
He has toured the United States many times, befriending artists such as Little Willie Foster, Bobby
Mack and Ronnie Taylor. He encouraged all these artists to tour New Zealand, which helped broaden New Zealanders' appreciation of blues music.
Marsden was also a friend of Stevie Ray Vaughan, living at his house in Texas for many months and playing harmonica with him on tour.
Marsden's latest album, Back to the Well includes cover versions of some much-loved songs that 'fit the concept' of the record, including a track by the late Mark Sandman of Morphine, Presbyterian reggae from Jimmy Cliff, gospel on I'll Drown in My Own Tears and a treatment of an early Rolling Stones hit Time is On My Side which takes it back to its soul roots.
