From furiously fast fiddling to beautiful melodies, famous fiddler Marian Burns features at Operatunity's next concert.
3 Mad Fiddlers and the Odd Singer! is led by the infectiously cheerful Burns with a concert full of variety. She is bringing with her long-time fiddle students Vanessa Harvey and Michaela Roy, bothoriginally from Gore.
Vanessa and Michaela met at kindergarten. Michaela turned up one day with her new violin and, like children do, Vanessa was determined to have one of her own.
They started lessons with the same violin teacher when they were 5 and later began having lessons with Marian.
They have been entering music competitions together for four years and this year their duo, Tangled Strings, won the senior instrumental section of the New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards.
The concert's singers are husband and wife team Susan Boland and John Cameron, who will be singing well-loved melodies including When the Red Red Robin and She'll be Coming Round the Mountain.
