Greg Johnson is on a New Zealand tour with fellow musician Mel Parsons this month. The pair perform each others songs at Totara St.

Hands down, New Zealand is Greg Johnson's favourite place to tour.

After all, it's home. Born and bred in Auckland, the singer songwriter has made it big globally over 25 years and now lives in Santa Monica. He's grateful for his solid Kiwi fan base.

"I've built up a loyal New Zealand audience, they have stuck by me and made my career possible ... they have always been with me."

Auckland is where his folks and sister are so when he returns on tour, it's always a nice mixture of work and play.

Greg is on tour this month with fellow musician Mel Parsons with 11 dates throughout the country. The pair will be singing each other's songs such as Save Yourself, I Won't Let You Down, Isabelle, Far Away, Don't Wait Another Day, Get Out Alive, Now The Sun Is Out, and more.

"I'm sure my crowd and hers will cross over a fair bit, while the uninitiated are in for a great night of discovery," Greg says.

While Greg is popular in other places throughout the world, he says touring in America is pretty much over.

"Touring is a young man's game. I have a studio there now and I prefer to work there really, and there is a lot going on."

What's going on at his studio, Tropical Noise, is producing other artists, commercials and film soundtracks. Greg also pretty much cranks out an album every two years.

"I have a had a fairly good work ethic. But I have decided to release epics now, four tracks every year rather than a whole album every two years."

Greg's EP Low Frequency Word is out now. Greg says his new songs have similar human themes.

He's particularly fond of the song What Are You Trying to Say which is "based on angry old man, sort of myself included, who pines for the nostalgia of former times but without realising the world has moved on. I try not to repeat same things ... there's less romantic relationship vibes from when I was younger. I'm married now so there's not so much trouble in that department."
