Courteney Cox has even made a successful TV series out of the phenomenon.
But Sandy (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is not your typical cougar, she's more your normal 40-year-old suburban mum.
Her perfect
life is shattered by her husband's infidelity and she uproots her children for a new life in downtown New York.
Arum is also struggling to re-establish his life after discovering his French wife married him only to obtain a green card and is now gone.
The 25-year-old works in a coffee shop trying to work out what his next life move is.
When Sandy moves into an apartment above the coffee shop, Arum becomes a useful friend and babysitter for her two children.
As she re-enters the workforce and the dating world, she realises she is not at all prepared.
Arum quickly becomes the rock she relies on to get through her weeks but she doesn't realise they are both falling for each other.
With the obvious age difference, questions arise about whether both are on the rebound. Has Arum lived enough of his life or has Sandy lived too much of hers? Both need to find the answers to these questions if their relationship is going to have a future.
