Law Abiding Citizens
(R18), Roadshow Entertainment
Find a comfy seat, grab a snack and a drink and settle back, this is one film you are not going to be able to tear yourself away from.
From the opening graphic scenes, you are quickly hooked, and you don't know where you are heading
as the plot twists and turns.
Taking centre stage are two men - Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) and Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx).
Shelton, a creative, inventive and very smart man, finds his life is destroyed when two thugs break into his home and kill his wife and young daughter.
Shelton is horrified when Nick Rice - a prosecutor with his eye on his conviction rate - cuts a deal with the killer, meaning he only has to serve a few years in jail if he implicates his accomplice.
Shelton can't see the fairness of allowing a killer to get such "justice".
Seething with anger, he decides not to get angry, but to get even.
As time passes, Shelton works behind the scenes coming up with a plan that will allow him to exact the justice that he believes should have been served in the first place.
Everyone associated with the case, from the judges, lawyers and prosecutors, to the killers themselves, face an enemy who is determined and ruthless.
Just when the authorities think they have Shelton's measure, another body turns up.
Driven by both fear and self-preservation, they have to listen to his demands and act accordingly if they want to live.
Law Abiding Citizens is certainly not a movies for the squeamish - it is cold and ruthless - but spectacular entertainment nevertheless.
