Glee - Season One
(PG), Roadshow Entertainment
Imagine stepping into a television executive's office and offering him this scenario for a hit new TV series - a bunch of misfits getting together to form a school choir.
That, in a nutshell, is Glee, the Golden Globe-winning series that has captured huge audiences around the world.
It is a simple formula that has been tried before but somehow the producers have put together just the right mix of talented students, great scripts and quirky characters and the right dose of scandal.
Spanish teacher Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) is the focal point of the show.
He was once a starring member of William McKinley High's glee club in his school days and he wants to re-live the glory days.
But somehow he has to break through the prejudices of the students and the faculty if he is going to make it happen.
One student he can count on is the supremely talented (and doesn't she know it) Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) who has the voice of an angel.
The Glee team, dubbed New Directions, forms around her and the sounds are sweet. Every episode is dotted with superb musical numbers, contemporary and great show tunes.
Series one focuses on the road to the sectionals. The team must pull together if they want to take the first step on their road to glory by making it through sectional qualifying.
Glee is not just about the music. Characters like cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) and student adviser Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) challenge viewers in different ways.
Glee is a rare commodity these days - quality entertainment that the whole family can watch and enjoy.
