Diversity of Garden and Artfest

The Garden and Artfest kicked off on Monday, and even city workers have been treated to a burst of floral fun.
Shipping containers featuring nature scenes have appeared around Tauranga as part of the Bay of Plenty Times Art In The City component of the festival.
An image of a silhouette of a tree dominates the base of Mount Drury at Marine Parade, while a waterfall photograph decorates a carpark at The Strand.
Others are found at Palm Beach Papamoa opposite Pak'n Save, at Diggelman Park in Katikati and at Te Puke.
Garden and art lovers can get their fix of the festival without leaving the city, thanks to the Art Walk. The walk starts at Creative Tauranga, where art lovers can pick up a map which shows the location of 15 window displays.
Among the window displays will be seven creations of Fabulous Funky Flora Fashion.
John Beech, of Creative Tauranga, said the creations were wearable arts made out of recycled items from garden centres - including flower pots, plastic bags and cloth. "It's raising awareness for recycling and the environment and working in with Garden and Artfest."
Other stops on the Art Walk include artwork and photographs, while the transformation of Masonic Park into a red and green fantasy forest is another city attraction. "It's really about getting diversity and energy back into the CBD, and getting people back into the city," Mr Beech said.
Creative Tauranga will host the exhibition Digging for Victory, which features the gardeners of World War II who beat food shortages during the war by growing their own.
One of the shop windows features the winning photograph in the Bay of Plenty Times Art in the City Photography Competition.
Mike Brown of Katikati won the contest - the first he had ever entered - with a shot of a fern frond. Mr Brown came out on top over 100 entries in the competition, which called for images featuring gardens or flora.
He is a former signwriter who turned his passion for photography into a business after a motorcycle accident left him unable to work for three years.
Other city attractions include Tauranga Art Gallery's garden-themed exhibitions - Karl Maughan's huge garden paintings, and Elizabeth Thompson's native inspired works.
