Big name bands battle it out

Early January will see music mayhem when Clash of the Titans returns to the city.

Now in its third year, Clash of the Titans has the reputation as an epic summer tour, and once again it features a strong line-up. Three of the biggest names in Australasian music - Dragon, Mi-Sex and The Feelers - perform at Baypark Arena on January 4.

Tauranga has a particularly strong audience for the titanic battle, says promoter Brent Eccles. "The bands are well known and all three have a strong catalogue of big hits. Should be even better in the indoor arena at Baypark."

The bands are forces to be reckoned with in their own right. "But together, under the same roof and battling it out back-to-back on the same stage, audiences across the country can expect a night of absolute rock 'n' roll mayhem."

The Feelers have a list of hits including Larger Than Life, Venus, Fishing For Lisa and Pressure Man and return with founding members James Reid and Hamish Gee.

Todd Hunter remains at the helm of Dragon, which is behind some of New Zealand and Australia's most memorable anthems, from April Sun in Cuba, Rain, to Are You Old Enough and Still In Love With You.

The pioneers of new wave, Mi-Sex, are also returning to prove why they're still considered one of the most important bands in Australasian music history. Now led by Steve Balbi, and armed with their biggest hits, from Computer Games and Blue Day to People, they'll also unleash new material from their just-released album, Not From Here.
