The first day of Tauranga's Boat and Leisure Show has gone down swimmingly with exhibitors, who after a trying few years, have already gained plenty of interest from punters.
An ominous weekend weather forecast did not dampen spirits at Baypark Stadium yesterday as boat builders, owners and sellers showed off the
best of their craft.
The show boasts more than 100 displays, including a 9m ocean series cabin cruiser belonging to Taupo-based Skelton Craft.
Owner operator Mark Skelton said the first day had already been promising.
Mr Skelton said the tough economic climate had made the business of selling boats tough over the past few years. "It has been a horrific couple of years, not just tough. But there seems to be a change. We have had really good feedback. They really like our boat."
An ocean cruiser, complete with Titanic-style bow, is just one of a cavalcade of watercraft on show this weekend.
Paddleboards, kayaks, moth-like wind surfing boards, and boats of all sizes are on display.
Bay Events director Graeme Martin said he had seen a few smiles on the faces of exhibitors. "We have had really good feedback, the exhibitors are really happy but it's also about the Tauranga people. The show belongs to them."
The show continues today and tomorrow.
