A piano trio from South Carolina will play in Tauranga this month as part of the Tauranga Musica programme.
Poinsett Piano Trio was founded in 2008 after its members had performed together for several years and in various chamber music configurations.
This is the first international tour as a trio for David
Gross (piano, Germany), and husband and wife Christopher Hutton (cello, New Zealand) and Deirdre Hutton (violin, US). They are based in Greenville where they teach at Furman University.
They have considerable experience playing in Europe and America, and have performed with many well-known orchestras. Christopher toured NZ in 1999 with pianist Sergey Schepkin, and played to a large audience at Tauranga's Baycourt Theatre.
The ensemble is named in honour of Joel Roberts Poinsett, a statesman, physician and botanist from South Carolina. Poinsett is remembered as the discoverer of the Mexican Poinsettia plant.
The Tauranga Programme consists of the following pieces:
Ludwig van Beethoven - Piano Trio in E-flat, Op 1, No 1
Frederic Chopin - Polonaise-Fantasie, Op 61 (Solo Piano)
George Frideric Handel/Johann Halvorsen - Passacaglia (Violin/Cello Duo)
Johannes Brahms - Piano Trio in C major, Op 87
The Poinsett Piano Trio will play on Saturday, May 22, at 7.30pm at Baycourt Theatre. Tickets from Baycourt TicketDirect.
