90s hip-hop act hits Tauranga

One the most influential female hip-hop and R&B acts of the 90s perform in the city this weekend.

This is the first time TLC performs in New Zealand, and stops off in Tauranga via shows in Auckland and Wellington.

A five-time Grammy Award winning act, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes sold over 65 million records worldwide.

TLC had a string of hits throughout the late 90s and early 2000s including featuring on the Puff Daddy and Faith Evans Grammy winning monster smash I'll Be Missing You.

Their 1994 album CrazySexyCool is in the Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and their third, FanMail, won the coveted Album of the Year and Best R&B Album, while singles No Scrubs won Record of the Year and Unpretty won Best Video.

Tragically, Lopes was killed in a car accident in 2002, leaving T-Boz and Chilli to continue.

The group officially reunited in 2010 and have been in the studio working a new album and touring. TLC has released a new single Haters, the first new music since 2014, and they release their final album next year.

Supporting TLC is New Zealand act Kings, who recently signed to Warner Music.
Kings' debut single Don't Worry Bout It peaked at Number 1 on iTunes NZ and is top 10 in the official New Zealand singles chart.
