Summer is just round the corner and that means beaches, barbecues - and beauty treatments.
If you're suffering from pasty-white flaky and dry skin, feet that haven't seen the light of day in months and less than smooth legs, you're not alone.
Beauty salons in the Western Bay have
reported a surge in business thanks to the spring sunshine.
As we prepare our bodies for shorts and jandals, the winter neglect can become all too obvious.
Angela King, owner of Salon One the Cove, said business had picked up in the last few weeks and things would only get busier.
One stylist was already fully booked for the week before Christmas, she said.
"It's the season to book your appointments early. Being organised means you can get who they want, at the time they want."
Ms King had hired an extra beauty therapist to cope with the demand of women wanting spray tans, waxing, pedicures and more, to look good on the beach and for special occasions.
Sabrina Fox, who works at Allur Beauty Salon and Massage in Bethlehem, also reported increased trade since the start of spring.
She said treatments such as eyebrow and eyelash tinting were popular in summer, as women could look great without wearing makeup.
"People don't wear as much makeup in summer as when it's hot they tend to sweat it off, so if they get their eyebrows and eyelashes tinted they still have a bit of colour if they are bare-faced."
Some women were going a step further and getting eyelash extensions applied.
Amber Ward has been running Award Beauty in Papamoa for just two months and said it had been "crazy" busy for a new business.
Eyelash extensions were especially popular in summer because they gave a made-up look without makeup.
"It just completely changes your look if you have never had long lashes - the extra length is amazing. Lots of people find you don't need makeup."
The Bay of Plenty Times asked hair and beauty experts what we can do now to make ourselves gorgeous for summer.
10 BEAUTY TIPS FOR SUMMER
1. Get a spray tan - but make sure you shave and exfoliate thoroughly before the tan.
Angela King, owner of Salon One The Cove, says modern spray tans need not leave you with the Fanta-look. "It's better to go light than dark. It's designed to give you a beautiful healthy look, not the orange look."
Her other tip for a flawless tan? Follow the instructions to the letter.
2. Get a conditioning treatment for your hair.
Spring-time heralds a return to blonde highlights, Ms King says. But make sure your hair is in tip-top shape to take the colour.
"The condition of the hair is of utmost importance."
"The winter and the air conditioning all takes its toll. You need to put the moisture back into the hair and use conditioning treatments," Ms King says.
3. Don't fall victim to the latest fads if they don't suit you.
Ms King is not a fan of the latest trend of the "dip-dyeing" two-tone look sported by Drew Barrymore.
"It might have been trendy with the Hollywood stars, but it looks like you can't afford to get your hair done. It looks unclassy.
"If you are going to a professional hairdresser, you want class."
Instead choose a colour that suits your skin tone, she advises.
4. Nourish your skin.
Sabrina Fox, who works at Allur Beauty Salon and Massage in Bethlehem, says now is the perfect time to prepare your skin to look fabulous this summer.
"In the winter your skin tends to dry out with wind and cool air. Give your skin a really good exfoliation, and feed your skin with a hydrating mask."

5. Wear sunscreen.
It's age-old advice, but at this time of year it's too easy to "accidentally" get burnt.
Ms Fox says you should wear sunscreen all year round, and recommends at least an SPF30 on your face each day.
"Even though it may be cloudy, you are still getting rays.
"Sun damage is the number one worst thing you can do for your skin."
6. Get your eyelashes and eyebrows tinted.
Ms Fox says these treatments are popular in summer as women tend to wear less makeup.
Dying your lashes and brows give your face some colour even if you are bare-faced.
Or go one better than dying your eyelashes and try the latest trend - having eyelash extensions glued to your lashes. They last until you natural lash falls out.
Amber Ward of Award Beauty in Papamoa says lash extensions give you a beautifully made up look, as soon as you get up in the morning - no mascara needed.
7. Get beautiful and support breast cancer
To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Award Beauty is offering a special set of lashes with pink corner flicks - and $10 from each set goes to Breast Cancer Research.
8. Deal to your feet.
After months of being hidden away in boots, our feet need a bit of extra attention before sandal season. Book in a pedicure. And for extra special feet, Mrs Ward suggests acrylic toenails, for a polished French manicure look.
9. Try threading
No, it's not some new craft craze. Threading is an alternative to plucking your eyebrows, which gives a more defined shape.
10. Quit smoking
No explanation needed - smoking ages you dramatically.
