A road rage victim who was felled by a single punch on Sunday is now "hanging on by a thread" on a life-support system in Auckland Hospital.
Jim Ellyett, aged 58, of Kohimarama, was attacked when he got out of his car to exchange details with another driver after a minor collision in Quay St.
A single punch knocked Mr Ellyett down and he is thought to have knocked his head.
He is now in a medically induced coma in Auckland Hospital.
The toolmaker is thought to have suffered brain damage and the "picture is grim," a relative said.
A 38-year-old man has been charged with assault.
