A Queensland dad who desperately tried to save his sons in a house fire says his world is "never going to be the same again".
Nathan Perry dragged his two sons Blade, 4 and Jeremy, 3 from their burning home in Weranga, west of Toowoomba after it caught alight at about 8pm on Tuesday (local time).
Both boys sustained burns to 90 per cent of their bodies and were taken to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in critical conditions where Blade succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday afternoon, The Courier Mail reports.
Mr Perry told Nine News he woke to the smell of smoke and saw a "flicker of light".
"I knew it was a fire straight away ... I guess I made a mistake by opening the door and letting the air in and that's when (the fire) went berserk," he said.
Mr Perry suffered burns to his arms, back and face but walked from his hospital bed on Wednesday to be with the family as they turned off Blade's life support.
"I ran through the flames and grabbed the children out, did would I could, feel like I failed with Blade because he didn't make it.
"I'm heart broken, my two beautiful little boys ... and my world's never going to be the same again.
"It will haunt me forever," he said.
The boys' mother Tamika Frid said it was the "worst day" of her life.
"I never ever experienced anything so bad in my life till the day we had to turn the life support off on our son, the worst day.
"I just wish everything was just a dream and you could just wake up everything can be just better again," she said.
I don't even know. I'm heartbroken, my two beautiful little boys and my world's never going to be the same again
Ms Frid said she believed Blade was watching over his younger brother Jeremy, who remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
"He's going to get through this, his brother's right next to him ... telling him you can do this, you do this," she said.
