At least 13 tourists are feared dead after a tourist bus plunged off a road in central Japan.

More than 20 others were injured and transported from the accident site in Karuizawa town, 120km northwest of Tokyo, Kyodo News agency reports.

The bus carrying about 40 passengers veered off the road, breaking through the guard rail about 2am local time, authorities said.
