NEW YORK (AP) Italy's foreign minister says integrating immigrants is the only way to stem the radicalization of young Muslims in Europe.
Germany has said some 220 people from across Europe went to Syria to fight last year. Authorities worry about terrorism at home once the fighters return.
Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino says integrating immigrants is a challenge in her country, where the first black Cabinet minister has faced racist taunts since being appointed in April.
Bonino spoke to The Associated Press on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly earlier in the week.
Italy is one of Europe's main entry points for immigrants. Its tiny island of Lampedusa is closer to Africa than to Italy.
