The body of a female tourist has been recovered from the bottom of the ocean after a day out on the reef went tragically wrong in the Whitsundays.
The 23-year-old woman was scuba diving yesterday with a group at Langford Island when she failed to resurface.
She was found a short time later on the ocean floor and CPR was commenced by witnesses.
She was unable to be revived.
Mackay police sergeant Leigh Turner said officers are still trying to determine what happened.
"It is believed the woman is a foreign national and attempts are being made to notify the next of kin," she told AAP.
"Police cannot release any further information about her nationality at this stage."
