Whanganui artist Sandy de Kock has taken inspiration from some of her favourite books for her exhibition The Joy of Fauvism and my Favorite Books showing at Space Gallery.
Fauvism is a style of painting that flourished in Paris during the early 20th century and the artist has used the vivid colours of the style in her paintings.
"I randomly opened some of my favourite books and based the paintings on what I found there," she said.
"This body of work is driven by my love of reading, and the desire for self-expression through painting the written visual image."
Big Ernie, the Piano Player sprang from a page in The Catcher in the Rye and the artist has painted him as described by author J D Salinger.
