With the Whanganui District Council to decide next month which voting system it will use for the 2019 election, a public meeting will be held next week to discuss the two options and seek public feedback.
On September 6, the council will vote on whether it retains the current first-past-the-post (FPP) or changes to the single transferable vote (STV) system to elect the mayor and councillors.
Last week councillors voted to defer the decision until September 6 in order to seek public feedback and to take a neutral stance while it does so.
"And that's really important because otherwise it would skew the feedback you're going to get," mayor Hamish McDouall said.
He and electoral officer Noeline Moosman will host the meeting at the War Memorial Centre next Wednesday, August 23, from 5.30pm.
