The Friends of the Whanganui River group has refocused itself and launched into new ventures.
Members decided it should be more social, with monthly meetings. The first is on August 2 at Whanganui RSA at 7.30pm, and anyone is welcome to come.
There will be a short talk by a guest speaker, followed by a short film about activities on the river.
The group has formed an incorporated society, chairman Alan Donald said. It has also held a charity auction, started a stall at the River Traders' Saturday market and plans to continue publishing stories of the river in an annual every year.
It has held seminars, and also wants to help with conservation efforts along the length of the river.
