"It's just exciting and you want to keep doing it."
The three were among many who dressed up for the occasion as people were encouraged to do.
"This wasn't our original plan," Erica says.
"We were going to come as mermaids but then we saw these socks so we've come as bumblebees."
Radio host and organiser Tyler McDonald said there were more than 100 participants.
"The general comment is that it was very cold and colder than last year. The water was quite rough."
Money collected from the gold coin donation will go to the Whanganui Surf Lifesaving Club and participants were invited back to the Castlecliff Club for food, prizes and to warm up.
