Bicycles are a tool not a toy in China - but in New Zealand Johnmen Zhang cycles for pleasure and to spend time with his son.
Mr Zhang came to New Zealand 16 years ago from the city of Guangzhou, on the mainland near Hong Kong. Growing up there bicycles were the main mode of transport.
It's the same now, he said, because not many people can afford a car and parking is a problem.
"The city wasn't designed for cars. Overnight or temporary parking is a really, really big issue. Still, there would be enough room for leaving a bike."
Mr Zhang lived in Auckland first, and moved to Whanganui four years ago to become self-employed by buying a Castlecliff dairy.
