Sculptors Paul Johnson and Gail Mason's winning design Villa Rustica was installed at the Bason Botanic Gardens on Thursday.
Mr Johnson was installing the sculpture near the base of the Millennium Hill steps where it will draw the eye of vistors entering the picnic flat area.
The 6.6m tall structure is constructed from steel and curved polycarbonate panels depicting different varities of plant life.
There is flax, wheat, grapes, kumara and cherry blossoms - all varities of flora which Mr Johnson said have significance for the Wanganui region.
"Mother Aubert planted a cherry orchard at Jeruselum and her gardens were modelled on monastic gardens which were modelled on Roman gardens and that is why we chose the name Villa Rustica.
