Della Jones, one of Britain's leading mezzo-sopranos, will tutor at the New Zealand Opera School at Wanganui Collegiate in January next year.
The Welsh singer is well known for her interpretations of works by Handel, Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti and Britten.
Born in Tonna, near Neath in Wales, Jones studied at the Royal College of Music, where she won the Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Scholarship then made her professional opera debut in 1970, in Geneva.
She joined the English National Opera in 1977 and the Royal Opera House in 1983, going on to make appearances in France, Italy and the United States.
Her repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary works, with a specialty in the bel canto operas, notably of Rossini.
