More than 70 local children got the opportunity to catch their own lunch at Lake Wiritoa over the weekend.
Two hundred rainbow trout were released into the lake and children were able to visit and catch a fish.
The event was hosted by Wanganui Hunting and Fishing, with the assistance of members of the Wanganui East Club fishing adjunct.
Graeme Houlahan from Hunting and Fishing said the trout came from a hatchery near Turangi. Mr Houlahan said it was the first time Hunting and Fishing had run the event.
"We had 76 children and their parents come along and experience fishing for themselves. Some of the kids didn't even know about Lake Wiritoa and had never been there."
