Bike Wise month kicked off yesterday with a family bike ride along the Whanganui River.
Around 30 people - from toddlers through to grandparents - braved cool and windy weather for a cycle around the bridges and a free sausage sizzle at the finish line.
Sport Wanganui's regional developing officer for cycling, Norman Gruebsch, said the ride was an event for the entire community to enjoy.
"It's about encouraging families to get together and cycle," he said.
Among the participants was Wanganui Mayor Annette Main, herself a keen cyclist.
