Wanganui flower grower Wayne Hughes is having a golden summer, picking up titles for overall champion at two shows in a row.
Last weekend he had success at the North Island West Coast show in Normanby with his gladioli and this weekend he repeated the effort at the Wanganui Horticultural Society's summer show at Wanganui City College.
Mr Hughes was up against growers from all over the lower North Island but his blooms beat them all.
Not only did he walk away with the champion-of-champions trophy, his gladiolus was named champion bloom, he won the best formal exhibit, the trophy for the best single spike, and four awards for individual types.
Not surprisingly, he also collected the open points prize.
