The lawyer for a teacher who drove drunk says his client may face disciplinary action after the incident.
Thomas Christopher Potaka-Osborne, 38, admitted a charge of driving with excess breath-alcohol before Judge Dugald Matheson in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
The court heard that on September 15 police saw Potaka-Osborne driving erratically, swerving across the lanes and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Stopped for a breath test, he had blown 929mcg - more than twice the legal limit of 400mcg. He had offered police no explanation for his actions.
Defence counsel Jamie Waugh said the offending was aggravated by the high level from the test and Potaka-Osborne's "bad driving". He said his client was in "a position of responsibility in the community" and would likely face disciplinary action at his workplace.
