While much of the country is bracing itself for heavy rain and gale force winds, it appears Wanganui will again be spared the worst of it.
MetService has issued severe weather warnings for Northland, Auckland, the Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Horowhenua, Kapiti Coast, and Malborough - but not Wanganui.
However, a weather watch has been issued for strong winds in Wanganui, which may last into today.
Wanganui District Council's emergency manager, Max Benseman, said it appeared the worst of the weather would skirt around Wanganui.
"Most of the rain will impact to the east and north of us, although we may get some gale force winds," Mr Benseman said.
