A man who put others at risk by passing on yellow lines and crashing his car on Durie Hill later told police he wanted to "destroy his car in a crash".
Michael Robert Pollard, 56, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving after he lost control of his car at the end of a dangerous passing manoeuvre on June 23.
Pollard was driving at speed on Portal St around 3pm when he pulled out on double yellow lines to pass two cars, one towing a trailer, travelling up Durie Hill.
His actions forced another driver heading in the opposite direction to pull over to avoid a head-on collision.
Having passed the two cars, he pulled back into his own lane but lost control, causing the back end of his car to slide out, almost hitting another oncoming car.
