Wanganui City College students honoured one of their own from nearly 100 years ago at their school assembly yesterday.
Famous student Lance Richdale, who served as cricket captain from 1917 to 1920, played 1st XV rugby from 1919 to 1920 and was head prefect /head boy in 1920 at Wanganui Technical College, before going on to become a world-acclaimed ornithologist.
A detailed biography on Mr Richdale, titled Seabird Genius by Neville Peat and Chris Robertson, has recently been released.
During their research, the pair learned about Mr Richdale and his early years growing up in Wanganui, Mr Peat said.
They also came across his cricket bat from 1919.
