Brain Injury Whanganui became a part of the election campaign yesterday, welcoming local electorate candidates to share their thoughts at the support group's monthly morning tea meeting.
National, Labour, the Green Party and Act were all represented by candidates, who spoke to those gathered at the regular catch-up.
John Milnes, who first stood for Whanganui with the Green Party in 2005, said he was motivated to become involved in politics when he became a grandfather, concerned about the affect of climate change and depleted finite resources would have on future generations. He said while once considered the ideas of "crazed hippies", environmental issues were now more widely accepted.
Mr Milnes said the Green Party aimed to provide more funding for the public health system and address health-related problems in the environment, home and community.
Incumbent Chester Borrows, who was first elected to the seat in 2005, spoke about his experience as a sole-charge police officer in Patea and how it prepared him for his role as an electorate MP.
