Auckland's Tongan community has been asked to help find the Tongan under-21 rugby team captain, who is missing after allegedly making sexual advances to a woman at his city hotel.
The player was ordered home after a guest reported that she had been verbally harassed in the City Life Apartments on Monday.
Tonga is playing in an international under-21 tournament at North Harbour Stadium.
Team manager Viliami Fotu said the captain disappeared on Wednesday after being told he had to go home.
The player had been "deeply upset by his actions." No formal complaint had been made.
Tournament director James Iversen said the issue was between the team and the player.
Mr Fotu said the captain was thought to be staying with Auckland relatives. He appealed to the Tongan community for help.
The Dominion newspaper reported that a Wellington film production manager had received obscene phone calls at the hotel.
She spent a "terrifying and sleepless night" after attempts were made to break into her room.
Staff found the calls had been made from the player's room.
The woman had received an apology from team management and the NZ Rugby Union.
