A move is being considered to put a warning statement about health risks on baby formula packaging.
The food standards authority for Australia and New Zealand has put out a consultation document on the issue, calling for feedback on whether a stronger statement is needed.
Formula packaging currently displays a "breast is best" message, but some are calling for a stronger message highlighting health risks associated with formula.
It's a slippery slope to apply "warnings" to products that are not, in themselves, dangerous, but simply not as good for you as another option.
Imagine an orange juice label with a warning that read: "This product has a high level of sugar. You'd be better to eat an orange, then you'd get some fibre as well."
