Coronation Street was celebrating today after beating its arch-rival EastEnders to the top soap award in this year's British National Television Awards.
The Street, turning 40 in a few months, won the most popular drama award for the third year running and the fourth time overall. Street star Tina O'Brien, who plays teenage mother Sarah-Louise Platt, also picked up an award for the most popular newcomer.
Former Coronation Street actress Sarah Lancashire, remembered by many for her role as Rovers barmaid Raquel, scooped the best actress award for Seeing Red.
There was some good news for EastEnders with Martin Kemp, who plays hard man Steve Owen, collecting the award for most popular actor.

Ricky Martin's latest music video features lots of hip-thrusting - and he poses atop a glass box filled with groping nudes. But the Puerto Rican heartthrob, who's on his way Down Under for an Auckland concert at the weekend, insists there's a spiritual side to his music that's often overlooked.
"My concerts are about joy, not feeling judged, and being in touch with your soul," Martin said in Hong Kong. "I want to find peace and to project peace."
The 28-year-old star lashed out at suggestions that his act's too sexual. "I'm tired of all that 'Ooh' stuff - let's live, let's get rid of taboo, and let's start breathing, please," Martin said.
Although Martin is cashing in on music, he says he finds his inspiration "from silence, to be honest, and my meditation."

Wembley Stadium may have bid farewell to football but the famous twin towers are to have a swansong, thanks to Sir Elton John.
The legendary singer-songwriter is to host a special celebrity concert which will feature sporting and musical heroes with links to the famous stadium.
The show will take place on November 2, hours before the bulldozers move in and begin to demolish the home of football.
Organisers are hoping the event will raise $NZ3.66 million for a children's charity. Sponsor Mark Wood said: "Music has played a huge part in Wembley's history and Sir Elton's presence will ensure that music as well as sport lives on in Wembley's memory."

Rock veterans U2 are on course for their first No 1 for three and a half years - to deny a Robbie Williams-Kylie Minogue duet the top slot.
The Irish band's comeback track, Beautiful Day, has sold nearly 9000 copies more than the duo's effort, Kids, during its first day in the British shops.
Williams, arguably Britain's biggest pop act at the moment, and Minogue were seen as a formidable force by the record industry and had been expected easily to take the No 1 at the weekend.
However, U2, whose career has lasted two decades, are now set for their fourth chart-topper - the first since 1997's Discotheque.
