HAMILTON - Police brandishing rifles and handguns swooped on a Hamilton supermarket car park yesterday morning after a woman reported seeing a man with a gun in a car.
A man was frisked and arrested after police found him in possession of a toy gun.
He was due to appear in court today.
Sergeant Nick Young said the man had not threatened shoppers, but had given "a hell of a scare" to one woman who saw the gun in his hand. "Basically he was playing with the gun in the wrong place at the wrong time."
The woman who reported the incident was so shaken she had to be driven home by a police officer.
