Stand by for a wet and warm Whanganui spring, with possible heavy rain and more northerly winds.
Niwa has publicised its seasonal climate outlook for September, October and November and National Climate Centre principal scientist Dr Brett Mullan said normal or above normal temperatures were predicted, with normal or above normal rainfall, river levels and soil moisture.
Whanganui usually gets a lot of westerly wind in spring. He said the westerlies would still ramp up, but the winds were likely to be more north of west.
There is likely to be more wet and cloudy weather, with lows coming from the north across the Tasman. The cloudier days may mean day temperatures are higher but not extreme, followed by warm and muggy nights.
Coastal sea temperatures are above normal.
