Firefighters have just extinguished a fire which forced the closure of a road in rural Western Bay of Plenty.
Fire Service communications shift manager Scott Osmond said it received reports of the shelter belt fire on Omanawa Rd at 1.30pm and crews from Tauranga, Greerton, and Te Puke stations responded.
The fire spread to about 15 metres in length but on both sides of the road, Mr Osmond said.
Mr Osmond said the road was closed while firefighters battled the fire, which they have managed to get extinguished about 4pm.
Mr Osmond said there was no risk to any houses or powerlines nearby.
