At least $80 million will be invested in biosecurity science by 2025 if the Government is to achieve a goal set in its new biosecurity direction plan.
The document, released yesterday following two years of work, also sets a target to identify 150,000 skilled people to respond to biosecurity incursions.
The Government will establish a joint steering group of biosecurity participants including central and regional government, iwi, industry and community groups.
"Everyone has a part to play in the system," said Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy.
