This week's hogget fair at yesterday's Feilding Prime Stock Sale, with more than 5000 prime hoggets again, seemed to be just moving sideways until a closer analysis was made of the sale prices and it became evident that the very heavy hoggets actually firmed somewhat which lifted the lowest cents/kilogram levels up towards that achieved by the hoggets in the preferred weight ranges.
This was a result of some of the main buyers being more competitive on those heavy male hoggets, despite there being so many on offer.
The top sale price was actually less than last week's at $146 compared with $148.50 but nearly a quarter of this week's hogget yarding sold for $140 or better and five vendors achieved that $146 top price this week..
The store hogget yarding was very small and, with mouthing in full swing, sale prices
were steady enough in a narrow band.
Ewe entries eased further, but there was a greater proportion of heavier and better cutting ewes presented this week and the market firmed for the medium and better ewes, with one buying agent being very hard to beat on the better ones.
