The Selwyn district council has spent $17,000 on milk since June 2016.
Figures released to Selwyn Times under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act shows $11,000 was spent on milk purchases in the 2016/17 financial year. A further $6000 has been spent on milk in the current financial year to date.
District council chief executive David Ward said milk is purchased by the district council for various meetings and its staff morning and afternoon breaks.
District councillor Pat McEvedy said a lot of visitors come into its Rolleston headquarters and often get a cup of tea.
In comparison, the Christchurch City Council spent a larger sum on milk – $80,109 – in the 2016/17 financial year, and to date has spent $46,374 on milk in the current financial year.
